What is it about Mac … Ive converted five people to Mac in the past 24 months and they all agree, Mac makes things easy. Somehow Apple make my internet user experience so much easier and not just that … they impact my experience for other devices. In the graphic below you can see the devices I have connected to my Mac. All of these connect without inserting a CDROM. My Mac detects a device and speaks to it then tells me what to do -or- my mac will contact the nessisary site and ask me to install the required software it has tracked down on my behalf. This really should be what device manufacturers should pursue, a seamless customer experience. It seems simple and yes Im a business/Marketing person so people can tell me how hard it is to produce something so sophisticated that delivers something so easy. But I think thats the key, the same gos for (some) Apple applications “Users can accomplish their tasks quickly, because well-designed applications don’t get in the user’s way. ” - this is a Apple application developer guideline.

Maybe this is why the unique Nintendo Wii has also been such a success, its flawlessly simple to understand. You could say to a lesser extent for services like facebook but does this mean that adults like simple given Wii’s and Facebook seem to be taken up more in the 20+ category than the Sony PSP and MySpace? So that raises the debate, if there were a set of guidelines that manufacturer’s, developers and network providers should follow what should they be. A Mantra as Guy Kawasaki would say, if there was a Mantra all of the above should adhere to what would it say if it were …
